The bell above is the largest bell in the set. You can read the inscription on the main bell page.
This is the bell you hear at the Consecration time... it is rung three times from the organ when the
Host is raised and again when the Chalice is raised.
When this set was installed its keyboard looked like this
The steel cables were connected to the upper bell tower using a series of pullies.
This set had three swinging bells before the electrification in 1947. Bells One, Three and Five .
With the 1947 renovation this was replaced with large motors and an electrical keyboard.
The picture below is the fifth bell located in the south east coner of the first level in the bell section of the tower. When you look at it from the outside this section is just under the green steeple.
You can also see the same wheel type on the #1 bell to the right of the picture.
Also in the picture below the large metal case next to the bell was the sticker from the 1947 electrification.
In the same picture just under the # 1 bell is the 2001 striker.
The three swinging bells were connected to ropes that worked there way arround the wheel next to the bell.
In the 1947 electrification a cable was connected to an electric motor just below the bell area and worked the bell swing process. ( motor seen in the above picture)
In the 2001 renovation this was disabled and the electric striker was unsed to simulate that type of strike.
